Sean Ghobad is a fine art painter who’s specialized in realism, photorealism, and the craft of miniature painting. As a miniature painter, Sean has worked on a variety of surfaces, from wood cross sections to luxury goods. For eight years, he was the in-house painter for Louis Vuitton in Beverly Hills.
In this workshop, students will learn different surface preparations, working methods, and technical nuances of creating highly refined small paintings.
THE WORKSHOP WILL INCLUDE:
I. A 20-minute presentation of Sean’s work and biography, with audience Q & A.
II. Demo on Preparing the Surface (60 minutes)
Sean will show how to prepare both a luxury and raw material surface with an eye towards what’s possible for both paint and detail.
III. Transfer and Painting from Photo Demo (30 minutes)
Sean will demonstrate how he initiates a painting and discuss his color-mixing practice as he works.
IV. Student Surface Prep (20 minutes)
Students will prepare their surfaces.
V. Continued Demo (40 minutes)
Sean will continue his painting demo. Students are welcome to get started with their work while he continues to demonstrate and describe his method.
SHORT BREAK (15 minutes)
VI. Student Practice (105 minutes)
Students will continue painting their work while Sean circulates and advises students while answering questions on technique.
MATERIALS TO BRING:
Sean will provide an image reference.
A surface to paint on.
Acrylic paints, palette, and brushes.
