COLLEGE PREP Summer Camp

HS Students mixed in with adult amateurs and professionals during Saturday morning life drawing.

DIRECTOR: Miles Lewis

INSTRUCTORS:

Ages 12-18

Maximum: 12 students

Our Summer Art Camp is a college-level summer program that gives ambitious students the opportunity to dramatically improve their figure drawing, painting, and visual story-telling skills. In the spirit of our school mission, students also become intimately aware of art history, the world of ideas, as well as critical and creative thinking strategies. These intensives are wonderful social experiences that allow students to develop a rich sense of camaraderie and constructive competition with students who are similarly driven, from across the Valley and the greater LA area.

One of our 14 year olds working on a full color comic.

Students leave these intensives with a rich sense of communicative potential, clarity on multiple collegiate and professional pathways, and the grit, discipline, and verbal tools required to succeed creatively (in the arts and elsewhere).

Additionally, this program is considerably more affordable than comparable experiences, following a traditional foundational studio model that maximizes practice and mentorship while cutting administrative, material, and additional teaching costs. Students will be able to supplement their core education with master classes by visiting artists.

THIS IS A TRUE INTENSIVE:

Classes are fun, relaxed, and significantly individualized, but work loads are high. Students will be working alongside adult students and professionals in drawing the nude and costumed figure. Students are expected to participate in four 3-hour classes per week. Students are asked to complete an additional 10+ hours of homework per week. Students are required to exhibit in a culminating show Saturday, August 27th at 2022. If this is too much, students can take any of these weekly offerings a la carte. No bundle discount will be applied for a la carte classes.
